Appreciate success when it comes

The publishing business isn't an easy one, and I'm always anxious in the days around a books release. Will it fall into oblivion?  Will people notice it exists? I have no illusions about my place in the "fantasy genre." I consider myself a scrappy up-and-comer, who just might make it one day (if I keep working really hard). Still, from time to time I do break into an area I never expected to be...like sandwiched between George R.R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien on the Amazon Bestseller List for Epic fantasy books.

I've been there before...even made the number one spot on occasion (but that was due to a daily deal, and so it doesn't feel nearly as satisfying). The Death of Dulgath is hitting it without deep discounting, which is very rewarding. Yes, as my daughter was so quick to point out it's shiny and new, and the other books are better because they are always at the top of the charts.  Thanks, Sarah, you can always keep your ole dad grounded.  Still, I'll take it. After all, you have to appreciate any success as it comes.

A hearty thank you to all the people who are giving the book a try. I hope you enjoy the read!

  1. Remind her that Martin book at #1 is new too, and the game of thrones is a set of 5 books at a very low price. So I'd say you're still super-winning.

    1. I think it's best if she keeps "putting me in m place." It's good that she keeps me grounded.

  2. I laughed at your daughter's comment. Don't get too big a head, Mr. Sullivan, even though you totally should.

    1. Whenever I start sounding a bit too full of myself, Robin sends me over a 1-star review. That'll take the wind out of anyone's sails. ;-)

  3. I don't think it's in your nature to get a big head. You seem surprised, relieved, and a little mystified by the success you've achieved, and that makes you all the more likable. You're the "local boy makes good", not the "big star deigns to grace his fans with more books", and I hope you never lose that. It makes it that much easier for me to fork over $150 for a single book. ;-)

    1. I hope that's true. I am surprised and mystified by the success...and know it has much more to do with the readers (who spread the word) than anything I've done. Thanks for your generous support of the Kickstarter. We are still waiting on the rare editions - but they do take longer than the regular versions.

  4. You totally deserve that spot. Your intros to your latest additions to the audiobook series always make me tear up a little just because I feel so connected with these characters--- and to this world. I want to pack up and move there! I wish I could become a Rogue and travel along with this ever so dynamic duo.
    Thank you so much!
