FREE SHORT STORY - From Unfettered Anthology

Who Will Have the Last Laugh?
Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A thief, a candlemaker, an ex-mercenary, and a pig farmer walk into a trap…and what happens is no joke. When Riyria is hired to retrieve a jester’s treasure, Royce and Hadrian must match wits with a dwarf who proves to be anything but a fool. Difficult choices will need to be made, and in the end those who laugh last do so because they are the only ones to survive. No prior knowledge of either The Riyria Revelations or The Riyria Chronicles is required to fully enjoy this short story.

FREE SHORT STORY - An homage to Ray Bradbury's

Irwin Gilbert is a hoarder, a bookworm, and after a cosmic event leaves the earth void of all electricity, the owner of what might be the world's largest remaining cache of novels. Irwin has a dilemma, however, the world has turned cold and he has no idea how long it will last. When faced with freezing to death, can he dare to burn "his friends" and how will he choose which will be used to keep him alive. This short story originally appeared in "The End: Visions of Apocalypse" edited by N.E. White. I wrote it the weekend I learned of Ray Bradbury's death and is a homage to this master of science fiction.

  2. The audible version will be released simultaneously with the eBook and print books. And the wonderful Tim Gerard Reynolds returned to read both.

  3. Michael, can I just say how much I love that you do little things like this? Not that I needed persuading to preorder The Crown Tower, but it's great that you do stuff for your fans. Cheers and keep it up. :)

  5. I'm enjoying The Crown Tower so far and was so excited to read in the intro that if the first two sell well enough you could move on to write twelve books in this prequel series. I'll do my part to spread the word and support your patronage.

  6. Any goodies/treats/freebies for those of us who preorder the ebook? I quit buying printed books years ago.

Looking forward to reading the latest adventures of Hadrian and Royce!

    Thanks, Jon

  7. I am exceptionally excited for this! I still consider the Riyria Revelations my favorite fantasy series of all time. I gladly preordered the Crown Tower and I'm just so overjoyed to return back to the world of Hadrian and Royce. I'm especially excited to see how it all began.

Do you know when we might expect the Jester short story? I am chomping at the bit to read it! (I always worry I input my email wrong on forms like that, even though I double check it!)

Thank you so much for being so wonderful and awesome, I truly can not wait for these books!

  8. You guys are so awesome. I was planning on pre-ordering anyway, but getting some swag never hurts :)

PS Are you doing any local signings? I live somewhat local to you and would really like come to one as I couldn't make the last one.

  9. Jill - the pre-order is up on audible: http://www.audible.com/pd/ref=sr_1_1?asin=B00DZ0G088&qid=1374661831&sr=1-1 and yes it qualifies.

  10. @Mel - thanks! Orbit is also involved in this - so I thank them as well.

@Anna - same way as everyone else. You won't be eligible for the bookmarks/plates but you will be entered in the signed drawing and will get the free short story.

@Tim - I'm glad you are enjoying the reads. I too hope that people still want more Royce and Hadrian after these as I have some great stories waiting in the wings. Still, I'd rather have them bow out early then stay to soon...so we'll play it by ear.

@Jon - ebooks/print/or audible preorders count. The rewards break down on geographic location not media type.

@Meghan B - The short stories will be mailed soon (A day or so). Working on final copy edits of Hollow World but as soon as that is done they'll be going out. The process is, unfortunately a bit time consuming.

@KT - there is a launch party at One More Page in Alexandria - it will be on Wednesday Sep 25 (week after book 2 is released) at 7:00 PM - I hope you'll stop by!

  11. I've been debating for a while as to whether to read the books in chronological order or publication order (I've owned The Riyria Revelations in a combination of ebook/audio and paperbook but I haven't started the series.) Finally I decided to go the chronological route: read the two books in the series coming out this year (I'm a big fan of TGR so I'll be pre-ordering them in audio) and then jump to the The Riyria Revelations once I'm done with these two books.

I'll just stop worrying about any other books that might come in the future and read what I have in hand. ;)

  13. At the beginning of the new audiobook you asked for feedback...so here goes. Keep writing this series. The Crown Tower was amazing and I can't wait to learn more. If this were a 12 part series I would be elated!

  20. This was an awesome set of books please consider writing more just to flush out all of the inside jokes that I think Hadrian and Royce have.

  21. I am captivated by your two leads, Hadrian and Royce. I'm reading through everything you have on them, on audio for the published works, and I urge you to continue with them even after the Heir is established. I'm so very happy their on Audible.com. My eyes an take only so much reading a day, and I can listen as I drive, or just sit there enjoying the story. It's wonderful.

  22. I have just recently discovered the Riyria Revelations and am now on The Rose and the Thorn. I don't often read the author stuff in the back of the book, but I remember reading that you will keep writing them if we keep buying them. I want to keep buying them. Please don't stop. Something about Hadrian and Royce gets to me.

  23. I just wanted to say that, as far as epic/high fantasy books go, the Riyria revelations series is me favorite! I absolutely love how unique and deep the characters personalities and traits are, especially Royce and Hadrian's! I've only read to the very beginning of the Emerald Storm, and yet I'm already hooked! Due to a series of unfortunate events, however, I have yet to finish the Emerald Storm, or the rest of the books, because I don't have access to a library...but rest assured, I will find a copy, and finish the rest of the books! I can't wait to continue reading! Thank you for a great read, Mr. Sullivan! I hope you write more adventures about Hadrian and Royce in your future works.

  24. Hi. Just wanted to drop a quick note, brand new fan. Just started reading theft of swords. I'm absolutely loving it... that means I have to get the rest now ;)

  25. Just wanted you to know I got absolutely nothing done today- because I couldn't stop reading the last 2 books of the Riyria series. Started reading on my tablet this morning - looked up and it was 6:30 pm. Then I still had to read the last 5 chapters of the last book. Thank goodness the kids are teenagers and could fend for themselves for dinner. Thanks for a great series. But I will never start another book of yours until the rest of my todo list is finished (yeah right). :)

  26. I just finished the Crown Tower and loved it! I was especially pleased with Pickles at the end. I wrote a review on my blog about it. It should be published on friday. I hope to convert others to this series. :D http://modestlyturningpages.blogspot.com

  27. I devoured all of the Riyeria offerings on Audible. Gave them 5 stars on Goodreads because I couldn't give 6. I'm in love -- and going through withdrawal. I'm pretty sure you can hustle and get one published by Christmas, right? *cracks whip*

  28. Really enjoyed The Viscount and the Witch. I think the first book is the Crown Tower? Is that the book I should go get first?

  29. Micheal... I am so excited for the work that you are doing. You are my inspiration. I am still in the edit department myself (and unfortunately I have to find a new editor), but you are so talented. You are just a book writing machine. I cannot wait to get my hands on the collection of your books. You are just inspiring. I wish you every success my friend.

  30. This series is my all time favorite, I read them all in chronicle order, except for "Death of Dulgath" which I am listening too on audio in the car. I seem to sit in the driveway long after I have arrived home just to keep listening! Tim does a fantastic job on voices. Oh please, please, please continue this series, Royce and Hadrian have many more adventures that we need to experience.

  32. Just downloaded some of these free books and some of them are great but you can get loads more from www.amazon.co.uk itself which maybe suit exactly what you want. I also use the UK Freebie site Gratisfaction which is fantastic for free kindle books like you have listed here.
