End of an Era…at least for me

The original self-published versions of the Riyria Revelations will soon be retired. The rights to the series are about to be transferred to Orbit which means the Ridan versions will be discontinued.

Print books are being discontinued first. The Crown Conspiracy will be off the market in perhaps as little as a week. The rest of the print books will be phased out by the end of July. Ebooks will be phased out and completely off the market by the end of August.

Percepliquis, the final book in the series, will be released in January to complete the set of six. I will be revealing the cover art for this final book here on this blog next week.

For those of you who read my little books when no one else would--and you know who you are--thanks. In case you didn’t know, Robin and I did all the work on those ourselves. Robin handled the editing, and I did the cover art, the design art, and the book layouts right down to picking the same font that was used in the Harry Potter books, because we found that to be the most attractive and readable. In a strange kind of way, you could almost say they were handmade, at least they felt that way, and I hope you enjoyed the books as much as I enjoyed making them.

  1. Will Percepliquis' January release include a Kindle version or just the print version?

  3. Well, I'm a little sad to see this post. I've really enjoyed this series so much. And to see it end. Well, its all just beginning for you really. But still kind of sad too. :) Thank you for the great books and the beautiful covers. And cheers to the new beginning with the series with Orbit.

  4. It's bittersweet for me, and I can only imagine how it is for you. I have enjoyed this series immensely, and cannot wait for Orbit's editions. (I cannot wait to see the art for Percepliquis - did you create it like you did the others?)

  5. Yes, I painted the Percepliquis cover just like all the rest. It may give you a hint where that story is going to go. And in case you haven't figured out the color pattern by now...yes, the last book will be green.

  6. I am delighted to see the republishing of the riyria series. I was always saddened that more people had not heard of it. Perhaps now you will get the recognition you deserve. While I suppose It will be bittersweet for you, kind of like a baby you cared for getting ready to leave the house. But I assure you it will be good, with the greater volumes that orbit can bring to the table. They will be able to bring the books to bookstores and the increased exposure will bring you even more fans. Good Luck to you and I look forward to Percepliquis.

  7. Next week? All I can say is...Squeee!

They feel homemade to me too, it feels it part of the story. Like it was told over a crackling fire in the woods or a warm hearth at a pub.

Glad you're moving forward and so glad it'll bring the stories to a wider audience.

  8. I'm sorry to see these wonderful editions go, and also sorry to have to wait until January for the 6th book of the set, but I'm just happy it is coming, and I'm happy for you, that you and your books will get more publicity; the attention deserved.

  9. hey Michael - any chance you are most of the way done on a new series? ok, how about just a smallish trilogy?.. duet?.. standalone novel?... I need a fix!

  10. I must say I appreciate how you folks haven't turned into GRRM fans and demanded that I stop living and be chained to my desk to write 24/7. I will start doing posts on my up coming projects very soon. I'll let you know what's coming and what I'm thinking of doing after that. I'm a bit wary of making promises as the moment I do the universe will conspire to prevent me.

  11. Hi Michael, I just devoured book 5 in the Riyria Revelations. I really did try savoring it, but it was just too good, lol. Just wanted to say thanks for the great writing, it's been a real pleasure to read it. I feel that little well of emptiness as I realise I've read up all your words and that there's no more for a little while. Ah well, I will wait it out as all good readers do. Congrats on the book deal with Orbit, they know they've got a good thing!

  12. Thanks you Stacey,

I know that well of emptiness myself when I finished other author's series. It's depressing. At least you still have one more. Even though Percepliquis will be about double the length of Crown, I suspect it won't take you long to rip through it. So as bad as you feel now, cheer up, you'll feel worse in a little over five months.

  13. Hey. I need a new copy of Crowne Conspiracy. I traded mine to an intern a few years back, or well, I didn't really trade it as much loan it to him and he loaned me a book, and then he went off to school before we switched back, than when he came back the following summer, he admitted that his father stole the book from him...

I think the best part of this is what I traded it for: Game of Thrones, which I am now struggling to get through.

  14. I'm so excited for January. As a Canadian that is saying something.

I just wish this wasn't the last book...
